General Information

What do I need for a complete install?

The items needed for a specific installation depends on the requirements of the space. Factors which need to be taken into account are;

  • If a certified or non certified stove is needed which will impact the fluew system needed for your install.
  • If the smaller Cub or the larger Grizzly is needed to heat your space
  • Installation height (It is better to install it lower than higher for efficiency, due to rising heat) which will determine how much piping and flue shielding is required.
  • How the stove will be installed (one of our mounting options, or your own installation)
  • If a side shield is required to reduce distances laterally from a combustible material or surface.
  • The location of installation in relation to nearby combustibles and the shielding needed to cut them down

How much will my order cost?

The final price of your order is dependent on the products you choose to order, the applicable taxes, and where you will have the order shipped. The shipping cost varies depending on what you order and how far it needs to travel to reach your location.

To get an exact price, you can either add the items to the cart and go through the checkout process or build your order where you will be given an exact price with shipping included and no obligation to buy.

Where are you located?

Our office and warehouse is located at 3465 Griffith Street in Ville St-Laurent, QC, Canada.

Do you have any distributors / dealers?

We do not. We manufacture all of our products here in shop and ship directly to our customers.

Is it easy to install?

It is. Most clients do the install themselves, but you can also have someone do it for you. Installation typically requires measuring, cutting a hole, and fixing the items in place with a drill.

Are the stoves certified?

We offer non certified and certified models. Certified models are needed for insurance and when building codes require it. Non certified models are for recreational use.

What does certified mean?

It means the stove has been tested to specific safety standards by a third party.

What standards are the stoves tested for?

Our stoves are tested to UL1482-2022 (United States) / ULC S627-2023 (Canada)

Is the flue system the same for the certified stove and the non certified stove?

They are not. The non certified stove can be installed with our 3" pipes, 5" pipe and exit components. The certified stove would require our 3" double wall flue pipe to just about the ceiling where it will connect to the ceiling support box, using our transition cone.

From the ceiling upwards you will need 6" double wall chimeny pipes and components certified to UL 103 HT (United States) and ULC S629(Canada).

How long does it take to receive my Cubic once purchased?

Barring any unforeseen circumstances, most orders will ship the following business day after they are placed. The delivery times beyond that are as follows:

 

  • Canada: 4 - 7 business days.
  • U.S.A: 1-3 or 4-7 business days depending on the carrier selected at checkout.
  • Europe, South America, and elsewhere: 2-4 business days.

Do I need to pay tax?

Canadian orders will have tax added to them at checkout.

There is no tax on US orders.

For orders going anywhere else, import tax/VAT/duties will be paid to DHL upon delivery. This will not be included in the total order price generated by our website.

How will my order be shipped?

Canadian orders are shipped with Canada Post.

US orders are shipped through either USPS or DHL - depending on your preference and location.

International orders are delivered via DHL.

What if the items arrive damaged?

If an item arrives damaged – please immediately send an email to cubicminiwoodstoves@gmail.com with your order number and a photo of the damage. We will assess the best course of action from there.

Is there a warranty on the stove?

We do not offer a warranty, but if there is ever anything defective with your stove, just send us an email at cubicminiwoodstoves@gmail.com and we will do our best to help.

We offer a warranty on the glass for the first 90 days of use.

What if I need to return or exchange an item?

Please check the contents of each box upon arrival even if the installation date is months away. If any product is damaged or imperfect, send photos via email in accordance with our return policy. For returns, please refer to our return policy. Are the stoves certified?

Is there a warranty on the stove?

Overall wear and tear is not covered. For example: scratches, rusting, baffles, insulation, glass etc.

If the stove body gets structurally damaged (excludes glass, wear and tear, insulation, intake mesh etc) and you would like to repair it, we will do so free of charge. However shipping will not be covered.

Can you remove the rail on top of the stoves?

You can; simply use a pair of pliers to align the tabs under the top plate the holes on top and it will slide out with ease.

 

What kind of wood is best to use?

The best wood to burn is well-seasoned hard woods. This will help you achieve the best heat output along with the longest clean burn. You can also use pressed wood logs. We do not recommend pellets.

 

What are the two screws inside the firebox for?

They hold the baffles in place by putting pressure on the top plate. The baffles allow the secondary combustion system to work efficiently.

How does the secondary combustion system work?

Simply put, it pulls air from underneath the stove and introduces it in the fire box at the top. The hot air mixes with the smoke and ignites the gases, which are created by the burning wood. This produces heat with energy, which would otherwise have been lost up in the flue pipe providing better efficiency.

 

How much clearance is needed between the stove and combustibles?

There is a minimum clearance of 20” in all directions lateral to the stove if no shielding used. With proper shielding, the clearnce is reduced to 3". A clearances of 40" applies from the top of the stove to the surface above. Under the stove should also be shielded and an air gap should be provided.

 

How long does it take to cure the paint and how do I do it?

The curing of the paint will require you to burn the stove at high heat for several hours. It can take 1-3 hours for the paint to stop smoking. It can then take 20-30 hours for the smell to stop being produced.

This can be done outdoors to prevent the space from being filled with smoke. Bring the stove outdoors and attach 2-3 sections of pipe. Run it hot and this will evacuate the moisture from the paint. If no pipe is used, the stove will not get hot enough to adequately evacuate the moisture. Once this process is done the stove will not need to be cured again.

Where do the stoves draw their air from?

The air must be replaced since the stove is constantly consuming oxygen. The stove will draw air from the room. In most cases you can open a window or a hatch and that should be enough to replace the air. For spaces that do not have a window, or if you do not want to have a window open, you can use our wall mount with fresh air intake. This will bring air from outside into the area where the stove draws its air from.

Can I use it to cook?

Definitely. We have made many meals on our stoves. The Grizzly has a mini roaster which makes it easy to cook virtually anything you want! We would suggest not to cook with oil or grease because it could be a fire hazard.

How do I light the stove?

1. Set your intakes: Open the primary air intake found on the front (open when pushed to the right). Keep the secondary air intake closed (found under the stove, closed when pushed).

2. Take some paper and place it in the firebox; take some kindling and place it on top of the paper.

3. Light the paper and keep the door open for about five minutes.

4. Once it gets going you can introduce your wood. Close the door and let it go for another 20 minutes.

5. After the 20 minutes has elapsed you can then begin to open the secondary air intake activating the secondary combustion system, and dampen down the primary as desired.

How do I extinguish the stove?

You will close both air intakes on the stove by pushing the primary intake all the way to the left, and the secondary combustion slider all the way to the back.

The fire will begin to die out right away and it will take some time for all embers to be fully extinguished. Do NOT leave a lit stove unattended.

How do I maintain a clear window?

The glass that comes with the stove is a self-cleaning glass made for wood stoves. Once the stove reaches temperature, the glass will begin to clear. To maintain a cleaner window, pull the coals forward and place the new wood towards the back. The quality of the wood will also have an impact and the cooler the stove is run, the darker the glass will be.

How do I clean a dirty window?

When the glass is cold you can mix a bit of ash with some water and rub it in circular motions.

 

How often do I need to replace the insulation?

The life span of the insulation will vary. It will last longer if the wood is not cut too large, which will prevent chipping. Also, placing the wood inside as opposed to throwing the wood will keep the insulation from deteriorating quickly. Replacement kits are available on our site for each stove.

Mounting & Shielding

What do the wall mounts come with?

The wall mounts come with: the back plate, bottom plate, two side guards, mounting bracket and hardware needed to assemble and install it on the wall.

 

Does the wall mount come with the mounting bracket and all necessary hardware?

It does, it comes with everything needed; the mounting bracket, screws, bushing, and washers.

 

What is the spacing of the holes on the mounting bracket when installing on the wall?

7” left to right center to center and 6” up and down center to center.

 

What are our Wall Mounts made of?

Made of 20 gauge stainless steel.

What is the difference between the 3 wall mounts we offer?

Standard Wall Mount (CB-2012 / CB/4012): Allows you to mount it to the wall saving precious square footage. It also reduces clearance to the surface it is mounted to.

Wall Mount with Sliding Tray (CB-2013 / CB-2213): Tray is used to catch any ashes or embers that may fall out of the stove when you are refilling it or manipulating the wood.

Wall Mount with Fresh Air Intake (CB-2017 / CB2277): Works like the standard wall mount exceptit allows you to replace the air without the use of a window.It will bring the replacement air through a wall (or floor) through a 2” flex hose you would connect to the manifold found under the wall mount.

When do I need to use the wall mount with fresh air intake?

Normally the air is replaced by opening a window slightly. The wall mount with fresh air intake will bring air from outside to the area where the stove draws its air from and this would be used in spaces that do not have a window to open or in spaces where you did want to open a window. It will bring the replacement air through a wall (or floor) through a 2” flex hose you would connect to the manifold found under the wall mount.

 

What is the difference between a wall mount and a side shield?

The side shields CB-2016 / CB-2216 are to reduce clearances lateral to the stove. It will reduce the clearance from 20” down to 3”. Whereas the wall mount protects the surface the stove is mounted on directly.

Floor Mounts

The floor mount CB-2014 / CB-4010 is a nice stand that houses the stove, it does not reduce clearances. It can be bolted to the floor to ensure it does not move. It offers a storage unit underneath andyou can mount the mini tool kit directly to the sides of the mount. It does not reduce clearances but it bolted to the floor to ensure it does not move during transport.

 

Floor Mount with Rear Heat Shield

Same as the standard floor mount, except CB-2020 / CB-2220  has a rear heatshield that will reduce clearances from behind the stove. It does reduce clearancesand can be bolted to the floor to ensure it does not move during transport.

 

Does the floor mount reduce clearances?

The floor mount is a nice pedestal that houses the stove, it does not reduce clearances but it bolted to the floor to ensure it does not move during transport. The Floor Mount with Rear Heat Shield CB-2020 / CB-2220 does. It is the same as the standard floor mount, except it has a rear heatshield that will reduce clearances from behind the stove.

Are the flue extensions mandatory in an install?

Flue shielding must be present the entire run of the pipe when closer than 9”. The wall mounts offer 37” of flue protection and the extensions can be added to cover the rest of the run that is not covered by what comes with the wall mount. See CB-2015 / CB-2215 .

 

Does the side shield mount to the wall mount?

No, the side shield mounts to the surface you are trying to protect. The shields reduce your clearances from 20” to 3”.

Complete Flue System

What is the 3” double wall flue pipe used for? (CB-3012-SS/CB-3024-SS)

The 3” carries the gases safely out the space by creating draft which ultimately allows the stove to function as efficiently as it does.

 

What is the 5” insulated pipe used for? (CB-5024/CB-5012)

The insulated pipe is to keep the surface temperature down and to keep the flue gasses from cooling quickly. This will offer a better performing stove and less creosote buildup.

 

How much 3” pipe do I need?

You need enough 3” Double Wall Flue Pipe to go from the top of the stove to one foot above the highest point of the roof. You can consult the pipe calculation page or the flue system area of the build your order page to determine what is needed for your setup.

 

How much 5” insulated pipe do I need?

You need enough 5” Insulated Pipe to go from at least 2” below your ceiling to one foot above the highest point of the roof. The 5” Insulated Pipe should not go closer than 30” to the stove.You can consult the pipe calculation page or the flue system area of the build your order page to determine what is needed for your setup.

 

How do you connect the pipes together?

When connecting the pipes you will have the inner wall of the pipe above, go inside the pipe below. The outer wall will go over the outer wall of the pipe below. To connect them, begin doing so at an angle. This will allow you to see where the walls are.

As you twist, bring the pipe above from the tilted position to a vertical position twisting as you do so. Connect them as much as possible by hand. To complete the connection by placing some wood as protection on the bottom and top of the pipes and taping the top with a hammer and with

What is the clearance of the 3” double wall flue pipe (CB-3024 and CB-3012)?

The 3” Double Wall Flue Pipe needs a clearance of 3” with flue shielding or 9” without.

 

What is the clearance of the 5” insulated pipe?

The 5” Insulated Pipe requires a 7” hole to offer a 1” air gap all the way around. The pipe should not be closer than 40” from the top of the stove to the ceiling.

 

Does the 3” pipe (CB-3024/CB-3012) go through the 5” insulated pipe (CB-5024/CB-5012)?

It does, the 3” Double Wall Flue Pipe goes from the top of the stove and should terminate 1” above the 5” Insulated Pipe

 

Are the double wall flue pipes insulated?

They are not, there is an air space between the walls.

 

 

Can I fix them at the seam with a screw?

Yes you can! Ssecure each section to each other using minimum (3) sheet metal screws. Our 3 inch double wall flue pipe is
to be connected with (2) sheet metal screws to the flue collar on the stove.

Can I cut the pipe?

Yes you can. You can cut the very last section of pipe. And you should do so with something that spins like an angle grinder, and do not use something that oscillates back and forth which can rip the seams apart.

 

How often should I clean the pipes?

You will need a brush and handles by clicking and as many handles to achieve the length of your flue system. The brush comes with a 5 foot long handle, you get additional 5 foot sections if you require more than 5 feet.

After one week of use you should check your flue pipe to see the rate of creosote buildup. If it is clean then you can push it back another week. You can do this until you see the flue pipe needs to be cleaned out and to establish our cleaning schedule.

When the stove is cold, first look into the fire box and at the top you will see two screws, one in each plate. Loosen the screws using a screw driver. Once loose they can be pushed up and they will drop down. Then you can go to your cap and remove it. Pass your brush the entire length of your flue system. The junk will fall into the stove, some may go on the secondary combustion channel which you can just brush off, then scoop the junk out the stove.

Once clean you can place the cap back on. You can take the plates you removed and place them back as you found them. Tighten the screws enough to secure them in place and you can once again use your stove.

Once you determine your cleaning schedule of your particular set up, you should follow that schedule and clean the flue pipe regularly.

What size hole do I have to make?

The hole you need to make is 7” inch for the 5" inch pipe. This will give you the 1” inch air gap around is required.

 

Which exit kit should I get? (CB-6000/CB-6001)

The exit kit required is dependent of the roof material. For shingled roofs you would use the shingled roof exit kit CB-6001-SR. For almost all other roofs you should go with the metal roof exit kit CB-6000-MR.

The boots offered in the kits are good for roofs up to 45 degrees. Roofs that are steeper than 45 degrees will need to acquire the same boot but in a larger diameter to be able to accommodate the steeper pitch.

What comes with the exit kit? (Parts/Hardware)

They come with the following:

  1. 1 x 5" CB-5029-SS 5" Stainless Steel Ceiling Trim Plate
  2. 1 x CB-3027-SS Support Brackets
  3. 1 x Metal Roof Flashing Boot or 1 x Shingle Roof Flashing Boot
  4. 1 x CB-5028-SS Stainless Steel Cap
  5. 1 x CB-3050-SS 3" to 5" Adaptor
  6. 1 x CB-5024-SS 5" Stainless Steel Insulated Pipe, 24" Long or 2 x CB-5012-SS 5" Stainless Steel Insulated Pipes, 12" Long

We supply the following hardware with our exit kits:

  • The screws to fix the cap to the 5” pipe.
  • The screws to fix the mounting bracket to the 5” pipe
  • The screws to join 5” pipes together if you have multiple.
  • The screws to fix the 3”-5” adapter to the 5” pipe.

We do NOT supply the following hardware with our exit kits

  • 4 screws to fix the support brackets to the roof.
  • The screws needed to fix the boot to the roof.
  • The 8 screws required to secure the trim plate in place.

Where do the support brackets (CB-3027) go?

They get mounted to the roof and fixed to the 5” Insulated Pipe and they get covered by the boot.

 

What is the Stainless Steel Ceiling Trim Plate (CB-5029)?

The trim plate is to hide the gap between the 5” pipe and the 7” hole.

 

What does the adapter (CB-3050) do?

It simply covers the gap between the 5” Insulated Pipe and 3” Double Wall Flue Pipe visible from the inside. It holds no weight and gets fixed to the 5” Insulated Pipe.

 

Is the stainless Steel cap (CB-5028) also a spark arrestor?

It is, no spark should be able to pass through a space that is less than ½”

 

Do I need to install a damper?

You do not. A damper will only slow the draft, the stove already has controls on it to control the draft.

 

Can I exit the pipe out a side wall?

We do not suggest to do so. This is for several reasons: You will have two elbows, creating turbulence, slowing the draft which will reduce the efficiency of the stove. The slower draft will create more creosote buildup. You will have more of your flue pipe outside which will cool the pipe quicker and this will also reduce the draft and create more creosote. For these reasons we do not have elbows for our pipe, nor do we know any that will work with our pipe. A straight run up and out the roof is the best practice for a properly functioning stove.

Can I use an elbow?

It is not suggest. We do not offer elbows, nor are we aware of any that work with our pipe. For a properly functioning stove we suggest to run the pipe straight up and out with no elbows.

 

Can I use a single wall flue pipe?

We do not suggest to do so. If a single wall pipe is used it will most likely not connect correctly. And it will not allow the stove to function as it should because it will allow the flue gases to cool excessively.

Accessories

How does the Eco Fan work and do I need one?

The eco fan is a thermal electrically powered fan which converts the heat into electricity which spins the blade. These fans are great for large or long structures since it helps distribute the heat more evenly throughout your space.

 

Is there a warranty on the Eco Fan?

There is a two year warranty on the motor provided by the manufacture.

 

How does the Mini Roaster work? (CB-7200)

There is a thermometer on top of the roaster which will allow you to reach your desired cook top temperature. You can control this two ways. One would be to reduce the air intakes on the stoves (primary, secondary). The other, adjusting the air vents found on the sides of the roaster.

Can I use the Mini Roaster on my Cub?

No. Only supported by the Grizzly.

 

Mini Tool Kit CB-3010

The kit comes with three tools. A poker, a shovel and tongs. It can be mounted on the wall or directly to our floor mounts! (If ordered at the same time). Tools are not sold seperately

Brush Kit CB-8253

You will need to acquire a 3” brush to clean your flue. This is crucial for your safety and the safety of others in order to prevent against chimney fires and to ensure a clean flue pipe for a good draft. There is a 5’ section provided in the brush kit. 5’ Extensions are available here.

Replacement Parts

When do I need to replace the glass?

When and if it cracks.

How do I install the replacement glass?

Start by removing the door from the stove and lay flat on a table. Then proceed to remove the four acorn nuts. Once the old glass is removed, place the new one in the same position as the original. Fix the cover plate in place by tightening the nuts. To ensure it is not too tight, loosen them by a quarter turn. And install the door back onto the stove.

 

What if my glass breaks in the first 90 days of use?

We offer a warranty on the glass for the first 90 days of use.

When Installing Baffles, Do the holes go towards the front or the back?

The holes in the baffles go towards the back of the stove.

 

Stove Insulation, What is made of? and Do I need insulation in the stove at all times and why?

The fire brick we use is 1/2" thick vermiculate firebrick insulation.

Yes you do. If not the body of the stove will get too hot and will no longer be an efficient stove.

 

When do I need to replace the insulation?

When it breaks, or when it gets too thin due to extensive use.

Returns & Delivery Policies

Cancel

Before Shipping

    Most orders are processed and shipped the following business day of being placed. If you need to cancel an order, please reach out to us by email at cubicminiwoodstoves@gmail.com  or give us a call at 1-514-553-6682 during business hours. We will do our best to accommodate your request before the order is shipped out.

After Shipping

    Once an  order leaves our facility, we unfortunately have no control over it.

This means that we cannot change the address, modify the name, reroute/redirect the shipment, or hold it for delivery on a later date.

Returns

If you would like to return your order, you must contact us within 30 days of receiving it.


We strictly adhere to this, so please open your order upon delivery to ensure it is correct, even if your installation is planned for a later date.

We will not accept any returns that are initiated beyond the 30-day window.

You will need to ship the items back to us at your cost, but we will provide you with an RMA number to be placed on the packaging.

Please note that returned items must be un-used and in their original packaging.

Pipes and other stainless steel items must still have their protective film or we will unfortunately not be able to accept them.


If a used item is returned, or if any item arrives damaged, a refurbishing fee ($150.00 CAD) will be deducted from the refund along with a $60.00 CAD restocking fee.

Under no circumstances will we issue a refund for a 'blind return' (i.e: an item that is returned to us without any prior communication)

 

Canada:

    You can cover the return shipping costs on your end, and we can refund the value of the returned items. Alternatively, we can create a return label for you and deduct the cost from the refund.

All refunds will be issued via the method of payment by which the order was initially placed.

U.S.A./International:

  You will have to cover the return shipping costs on your end, and we can refund the value of the returned items. 

All refunds will be issued via the method of payment by which the order was initially placed. There is an import fee applied to every package that crosses the border.  We would unfortunately need to deduct the total amount from any refund that we issue (usually at least $55.00 CAD per box).

   

Delivery Issues

If an item arrives damaged or if something is missing from your order, please send an email to cubicminiwoodstoves@gmail.com within 30 days of receiving it.

 

Make sure your email includes photos of the damage and the packaging it came in.

We will assess the situation and determine the best course of action.

 


If a shipment is returned to us due to a it being refused, not picked up, an incorrect address, or something else, we unfortunately must charge you for the return and re-ship fees.

My order has arrived but damaged. What can I do?

If an item arrives damaged or if something is missing from your order, please send an email to cubicminiwoodstoves@gmail.com within 30 days of receiving it.

 

Make sure your email includes photos of the damage and the packaging it came in.

We will assess the situation and determine the best course of action.

Are shipping costs refundable?

As a general rule: shipping costs are non-refundable. 

Do you provide insurance?

On that note, we suggest adding ShipTection insurance to your order (especially if it's a big one), which covers damage, theft, and loss.

It gives us a much quicker and more efficient way of fixing the issue than by opening a claim with the carrier.

Either way, we will do our very best to make sure the situation is resolved.
