First look/first burn Grizzly

Just finished installing a Grizzly on a floor stand and insulated chimney to an off grid cabin in N Alberta. After a warm night, some first thoughts.

I’m impressed all around. The draft is like nothing I’ve seen. Even with the door open most of the smoke is pulled back. No puffs into the room even when lighting. It sounds a bit like a jet engine when the secondary is running.

The manual’s suggested 20-30 hours to season the stove is valid. We’d done one 3 hour hot burn outdoors and should have done a full day. A bit smelly indoors.

The assembly and install were pretty straight forward. More issues with the insulated chimney.

Using compressed hardwood blocks experiencing 3-4 hrs on a load. Recharging is simple of there are coals, just placing a new block and leaving the door ajar until you hear that jet sound.

The online pipe estimator was bang on. I ordered an extra 12” section just in case but things fit perfectly. The trick is tipping the stove/smoke pipe to align then sliding it into position. The 3-6” adaptor worked well but needed to be paired with the chimney system smoke pipe adaptor to fully enclose the insulated end. We used a Selkirk Sentinel insulated chimney system.

We’d debated the wall mount but it looks super as a centre focus of the room.

Do not store anything flammable inside the floor stand!

All around a good experience and really like this stove! Thanks to Cubic Mini for such a good design.
